Throughout recorded history, every civilisation has played a game with a club and a ball. Pangea for example, as described by Roman scribes, would appear to be the father both of modern hockey and the Celtic games of Shinty and Hurling.

In one form or another, the variant games of present day golf were clearly enjoyed throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. The game persisted over the centuries and the form that it took and rules that were applied varied as widely as the terrain the game was played over. In short, the game consisted of knocking a ball from one pre-designated place to another where the ball was to be struck off a predetermined object in the least number of blows. Games often extended from village to village.

That this game was ousted from the towns and onto the commons land beyond is one possible solution to the question of how it all began. Whatever the exact origins, it is known that by the 15th century, "kolf" as it was known in the Netherlands and "goff" as it was referred to in England, was a pastime enjoyed by Kings and Commoners alike. It's kinship to the Great Game however, remains entirely questionable.

So widespread was the game of "Gowf", as it was known in Scotland, that an Act of Parliament was passed to prevent the playing of the game on Sundays and thus preserve the skills of Archery. The citizens of Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Leith on Scotland's East Coast were the principal "gowfing" miscreants and it was no coincidence that rolling sandy links land was commonplace here. On this very terrain, a game that started with a cleek and a ball took on a form that started an evolutionary process that continues to this day.

The question of how it all began may be of pressing concern to some but to the Scot, it is sufficient to know that the game was born on the links land of eastern Scotland. Here, the game has been nurtured for over five hundred years and from here, it has been raised to the great game played and loved by millions throughout the world.

Blackberry Tutorial: How to install OTA themes

How to install an OTA download through your desktop?
Well, it’s a bit tricky but once you know how to do it, it’s almost as easy as installing a normal desktop installer download…

First of all, you will need to make sure that all downloaded OTA files are moved on the blackberries device memory or memory card.

Its easy to put it on the memory card, just connect the blackberry to your computer, enter the mass storage password on the blackberry when asked for and your memory card will pop-up on your computer as if it was a normal memory stick.

If you want to put the download in the device memory, you will need to have the desktop manager installed. When your desktop manager is booted you can go to the “media manager” and browse to the device memory under “my devices” make sure that the system is set to allow all files to be imported in the device memory.



Once you have uploaded all COD and JAD files you can disconnect the blackberry from the computer.

Now open the media application on the blackberry, and press the left button next to the trackball to open the full menu. Here you will need to click “explore”. Now browse to the location where your OTA download is installed.
Once you’ve located the jad and cod files, select the JAD file (it should be only 1 file) and click “open”. Now you will see the details about this file on your blackberry such as name, version and vendor. Here you will need to select the “download” button on the bottom of the screen. Once the application is downloaded you will be able to install or use the application.

You are now ready to use your blackberry OTA installation.

Meeting Mode

Suppose you’re sitting in your cubicle happily playing ATD, when you’re called to a Very Important Meeting, or you’re whirring down HWY 401 playing tower defense when you see the flashing lights of a police cruiser in your rear-view mirror. Hastily, in an effort to avoid at ticket, you stash your BlackBerry into its holster and start to whistle nonchalantly. But what happened to your game? Was it saved? Did it pause? Precious time is being wasted! Worry not, dear gamer, as we took these things into consideration when we designed the game. The result was what we call meeting mode, and it is a personal favourite of ours.

In the game options, you can set a safety distance, this safety distance is displayed in the game as a dashed red line. When meeting mode is enabled and your BlackBerry is placed in its holster, the game continues to play without your interaction until an attacker crosses the safety line. At this point, the game automatically pauses itself, and notifies you by either vibrating or ringing in a way that makes those around you think that you just got an important email (configurable of course). This means you won’t have to worry if you have to quickly put your BlackBerry away – the game will do its best to keep you safe.


Save Points

At any point, you can save your progress on a map to come back to it later. This is great for if you have to put the game down for a few days, or if you want to perfect your strategy on the final 20 waves of a map.


Wave Advancement

See what’s coming your way soon with the wave bar. The wave bar shows you which waves will be spawning soon so you can plan your maze in advance; it also conveniently stays out of your way until it’s needed. Advance waves early for extra gold and to accumulate interest sooner or let the attackers come at their own pace, how you play the game is up to you.


Tower Breakdown

Showing the tower list in game allows you to select towers to build but also to preview not only what the tower will cost at Level 1 but what each further upgrade will cost you and what you will get in return. Plan your maze around your future investment in upgrades and learn which towers best suit your strategy without ever having to leave the game.


Fast Forward

Confident in the strength of your maze? Press ‘x’ or tap fast-forward to send the creeps running at up to 6x as fast as they normally would.


Control Scheme

The control scheme in Addictive Tower Defense is based around three modes representing the three things you do the most: Scrolling, Focusing and Building. Clicking the trackball in Scrolling mode changes to Focusing mode, clicking the trackball again puts you in Build mode where you can click to place towers. Pressing the escape key in Build mode changes to Focusing mode, and again puts you in Scrolling mode where you began. This design allows you to quickly build mazes, move between towers directly without excessive rolling of the trackball and navigate the map.

How to change your BB's PIN and IMEI?

First you need:
- Radiolab Tool
- MML Setup and MFI Multiloader All files
- A copy of OS you want on your device (search in OS section)
- NET Framework 2.0

1. Connect your BB and make a back-up of anything on it you would like to keep as we will be erasing its contents including the OS.

2. Download and install NET Framework 2.0 if you don't have it on your computer

3. Download MML_Setup.exe and install it

4. Download MFI Multiloader All files, unzip it to "C:\MML" and overwrite all files

5. Connect your BB to your computer with usb cable. Do not start the desktop manager.

6. Open the MFI Multiloader, it will recognize your phone and will wipe all contents from the phone.

7. Look at the screen on your BB while the program is compiling, when the screen shows a large 1 in the upper left corner, close the multiloader.

8. Open the Radiolab Tool. It contains a program which looks similar to CDMA Workshop. Under the available views tab there is a tab marked ID. Highlight the ID tab.

9. Make sure your BB is still connected to your computer. Click the connect button located in the top left corner of the Radiolab Tool. On the lower screen it shoould say connected.

10. On the right screen you will see IMEI, BSN, BBPIN, and other lines. Click read on the IMEI line, it will read the IMEI from your phone. Replace the old IMEI with the new IMEI you want on your phone. Click write and it should be written to your phone.

11. On the BBPIN line click read. Replace the old BBPIN with your new Pin and click write.

12. After writing the pin click the disconnect button located next to the connect button on the radiolab tool.

13. Now all you have to do is load your OS back onto your BB.(don't ask me how to, you can load it with the loader or with the nojava comand, a lot of sotware are availaible).

And yet, one can't help but wonder a bit. Where did all those things COME from? Are there really so many things, or just a lot of different combinations of a few things? And how come its these PARTICULAR things, and not some other, different things?

"Langton's ant" is one of those things in the world, a fun thing to play with and enjoy (click here and it will appear in a separate window). And we know a bit about where this particular thing came from ... from the mind of a man named John Langton. And what's interesting about that is that "Langton's ant" is a relatively NEW thing in the world, so it serves to show that the particular things we see in the world at any given time are not the ONLY things that can be here.

But "Langton's ant" is even more than that. It gives us a way to think about some of the other questions we were wondering about as well. And, in doing that, it raises some interesting new questions. So ... let's play, and see what we can find.

The first thing to do is to click on the "setup" button. The black field turns greenish white, and a red dot appears in the center. That red dot is the ant. Now click on the "go continuously" button and the ant will move. As it does, some places its been will turn black. Keep an eye on the ant for a while.

I have missed the feeling of dried chlorine on your skin and sunkissed shoulders. I can’t believe that last summer at this time, I was floating around with a big ole belly. And now, she’s here … floating around in a baby boat while big sister floats around in a tube.

This is the summer Emma will learn to swim. I can feel it. I have her signed up for community swimming lessons, so … we’ll see how it goes. Poor thing is not a fan of water in her face, so this might be a challenge. We’ve already practically drowned Lucy in the bathtub so she won’t have this fear … and so far, she’s a water baby!
Yesterday the weather was unbelievable sunny and warm, most of the day. We are talking 80's! It seems often in my corner, either spring is only here for a short time or we miss it all together and go from winter to summer.
A good boast to wake up some of the flowers after a long winter.
Soon a corner of our garden will look like this! Well, I should say I hope after a long cold winter, I'm never sure what will make it or not.

Freya and I had a bit of a discussion recently about what she calls my “movie snobbery.” She claims I have officially crossed over from having high standards to being untrustworthy because I outright dismiss most Hollywood films. She may be right.

Last Friday we went and saw Toy Story 3 in a theater. We caught the last showing before 5, which in the old days meant we caught the last Matinee, but not now, because a Matinee showing is anything before 3. We avoided the 3D and saw the old-fashioned 2D version and yet our tickets were still $21.00 – $10.50 apiece. For a Pixar film I would probably pay more (and multiple times – I hope to see Toy Story 3 again before it leaves theaters) but $21 is a lot for an hour and a half of entertainment. It’s high enough that when I pay that much I am not willing to risk an crappy film.

Ever since I got married, well, probably even before then but more so since, I have tried to be very intentional about how I spend my money and on what. This applies to everything from food to entertainment to furniture. And in attempting to wrangle in my foolish spending habits developed through years of being a mindless consumer, I’ve realized that a lot of what I spend my money on does not give me benefits that justify the cost.

There is a hidden dilemma for the modern consumer that corporations work hard to hide; the dilemma of what standard of living your income allows you to have. What I mean is that Chinese factories and low cost big box retailers have made easily available to us a great deal of luxuries that until about 50 years ago weren’t within reach for the middle class. But the tradeoff is that most of these consumer goods are really shoddy – they don’t cost much but they don’t last long either.

Unlocking BlackBerry with MFI Multiloader

I want to share my experience with unlocking BB 8120, which was locked to Orange UK. It worked for me, and it should work for other models. I did serious research and this is procedure that came up:


1. Install Blackberry Desktop Manager. I recomend latest version ~version: 5.0.1 B49; size: 258MB
(download link: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/ ).

2. Next one is NET Framework. Install it. ~version: 2.0; size: 22.4MB.

3. Download and install latest OS for your device ~size: 90+MB.
( BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support...load_sites.jsp )
~choose network on which phone is locked

~3.a Delete vendor.xml from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Download and install MFI Multiloader ~version:2.0.1.3.; size: 718MB
( download link~torrent: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4579...0.1.3_10_files )

~4.a MFI Multiloader short setup tutorial: In downloaded archive notice all8files.rar ( 8 parts ), and MMLSetup. Extract them and run MMLSetup.msi. Extracted files from all8files.rar put in folder MML, and after finished installation overwrite installed MML folder with extracted. ( path~C:\MML )

5. Disconnect from Internet before starting procedure!

-Now you can start with unlocking. Open MFI Multiloader, and connect your device. Application will automaticly start process.

-You can see reading, writing etc...Just wait until MFI shows you PASS.

-On your phone screen will be shown "1". Disconnect it, and type START

-After finishing this operation phone can show you message like "error 507" or "no application linked"...don't worry, it's "normal".

-Your phone is unlocked now, but you'll need to reinstall OS and set it up.

2. MFI Multiloader shows FAIL.
     ~ You can get this message if your MFI Multiloader version is older. Download newest, and just repeat process.
